Panel 17E, Row 11

John Francis Pezzulo

Born on: 1/5/1947
Below are some of the remembrances left for him:
John was a high school classmate. We graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls, NY. Class of 1964. His nickname was "Piezon", reflective of his Italian-American heritage. While I was the team manager for the football, basketball and baseball teams, he was the athlete and a happy-go-lucky kind of kid. It didn't come easy and he worked hard at each sport he played.
We worked together on a senior theme paper; actually I did most of the work but one couldn't resist his impish smile.
I remember the day his death and that of fellow teammate Jim Bates hit the local newspaper. It was Good Friday and the day we remember Jesus' death took on added meaning. That Easter took on a whole different meaning for my hometown. The Church was packed for his funeral as community leaders and classmates came to say good-bye.

I watched a flag exchanged for a son.

I am thankful for The Wall; it is a beautiful and contemplative memorial. It has made John and his fellow compatriots come alive. The Wall has turned statistics into real live human beings and that is necessary to keep memories alive.

I am a 24yr old college student in California. I saw John in a book about items left at the wall. He was with his football teammates. I too played the game and was lucky to play in college. John (and a couple of others) mean so much to me. Sometimes words can't hold the connotations of how much they make up my reality. I believe John is with me in times of need.
