Michael Heinrich

Non Combat. Vehicle Accident
Born on:8/15/1949
Below are some rememberances posted for him:

Dear Michael,
I rememeber with sadness that hot day in May that you were killed. I was serving a week of guard duty in the base camp of the 2nd of the 77th when another friend told me that you had been killed. I don't dwell on the past and have tryed to forget about Vietnam....but every once in awhile my mind wanders and my heart fills with much sadness for my friends who died before me. It's hard to believe that its been over 32 years and that I am now 53 years old. At some point, all of your family, your Chicago friends and your 25th Infantry friends will all be together. Until then, May YOU Rest In Peace.

Samantha wrote this compelling poem for him

I am sorry for the death of your son,
Whose life had merely just begun.
He risked his all to save others.
I wonder if he was looked up to by his brothers.
When he enlisted in the war,
When he walked through that door,
He went from a zero,
To a hero.

That brave man was a star,
He could have gone far.
He was courageous,
On the battlefield he was ageless.

Though I never met him, he was an honorable man,
Not like the cowards that ran.
In the army he was only ranked E3,
But he held a much higher rank to me.

Some beings back home may have thought he was a zero.
In my eyes he was the hero.
He could have stayed home instead of with his gun in the ditch.
But that boy, who left to help, that boy Michael Heinrich.

I hope never to experience grief like yours,
Pain like rain when it pours.
It must have been horrible waking up at dawn,
Getting the call that informed you that your son was gone.

I hope he traveled peacefully to his grave,
Because anyone that enlists in the war is brave.
In his heart he was rich,
That extremely incredible man Michael Heinrich.

Because of him, I am proud to be an American.
