DT Base Battle, TET 69. Feb. 22 - 23
This one was about 3 weeks into the Enemy's TET OFFENSIVE, which with this round became an "Annual" event. According to the AAR of 2/22(M)Inf - Reacting to "various reports" of the enemy beginning to "group" in the area with an eye on attacking DT, and FSBs all over ther 3d Brigade, 25th ID oprational area, plans were made to meet the coming onslought. part of Co. B, and the scout platoon would be the reaction force for the base. The rear detachment of 2/22, clerks, cooks, mechanics, etc. would man some perimeter bunkers, around 14 on the North, and southeast of the perimenter. A from firebase wood II and B from their outside night defense positions were ready to react if needed. Rear detachments of other units occupied the other perimeter bunkers. All those support troops were to prove out that night the saying taught all Army Basic Trainees that no matter what their job, they are "RIFLEMEN FIRST" and did a hell of a good job proving it. HOOYAH! EN GARDE!!
